Trying New Things – Wine

Recently the family took a little trip about an hour north to St. Augustine for the day. It’s one of my favorite places locally and I love getting the chance to visit. On this trip we spotted a little wine store called Vino Del Grotto and decided to stop in to see what they would recommend. (Neither of us drink very often and we are very picky with wine.)

The woman working suggested a fruit infused wine from a Florida Winery, Murielle Winery. Her first suggestion was the 3 Berry Shiraz. She gave us a small sample and it was very good. Pretty similar to the wine we currently drink. Then she suggested something that I thought would be horrible, Green Apple Riesling. Let me tell you, I do not like anything green apple flavored, but I decided to give it a shot and try the sample. I am SO glad I did.

The Green Apple Riesling is the best wine I have ever tasted. It is sweet, but not too sweet. It has the flavor of an actual green apple, not the crappy candy flavoring. And the after taste is just like the taste you get after biting into an apple. Everything about this wine was perfection! We bought one bottle to bring home with us and it was gone in one night.

We loved it so much that we drove up to St. Augustine Sunday at 4pm just to pick up a couple bottles to have on hand in the house. (This doesn’t sound like such a big deal, but it is over an hour away and the shop closed at 5:45!)

If you are ever in the St. Augustine area and want to try something new, stop into Vino Del Grotto and pick up one of the Murielle wines. Or if you are in the Clearwater area on a Saturday, the winery has a free tasting you can attend. (I’m hoping to do this in the near future!)
